DRAMA?

Performance is about creative expression. It’s also about connection, confidence, openness, and trust.

Let’s play in that space together.

What our clients
have to say

“Debbie has an impressive repertoire of creative and teaching skills, and the temperament to get the most out of the children, while making the whole process a lot of fun.”

Kathryn Dyer

Principal, Montessori East Primary

"When our school decided to do a whole school musical written from scratch, I thought it was an almost impossible undertaking with children aged 6-12. I was utterly amazed - they had  a whole team help to scaffold each stage of the creative process: from concept and plot creation, singing lessons, auditions right through to rehearsals and costume design creations. The resulting musical was amazing and memorable, and the whole school community loved it!"

Mimmette Boissoneault

Teacher, Montessori East Primary School

Hi, I’m Debbie

I'm a practicing artist and have performed for both kids and adults across Australia; bringing original shows to comedy and fringe festivals and touring regionally.

My teaching approach is largely informed by Clowning, a form I love as it encourages students to embrace failure, drop the mask, and connect openly with each other. I am passionate about working with kids to develop these skills both for life and for the stage.

Whether you're interested in a one-off clowning incursion, or a longer engagement, I'd love to speak with you!

Are you ready
for the Bananadrama?

Option 1

Clown Workshops

Primary students engage well with clowning as it builds on their natural inclination to play.
It is an excellent springboard for devising short performance pieces.
Clown is great for CALD/EAL students due to it’s physical nature. When they do speak they can use their most comfortable language!
Students with additional needs who benefit from a playful and physical learning environment will thrive in these workshops!
Aligns with the Australian Primary Drama Curriculum
two primary aged boys are performing enthusiastically for their classmates. they wear red clown noses and one has a gold paper crown. one has his arms in the air, the other is pointing into the crowd. the audience have their arms in the air making a "thumbs down" gesture.

Option 2

Custom Designed Program

Whether you are a drama teacher looking for some support, or a school wanting to supplement your existing program I am here to help!
Perhaps your school doesn't have a specialist Drama teacher, and you would like to offer artist led Performing Arts workshops over a term.
Or you are interested in integrating other areas of the curriculum into drama workshops - History, English, Languages, and even Science can provide rich source material for performance and physical play.
Or is your school ready to embark on an original performance for family and friends? I can help with both the creative and logistical sides.
Let's talk about your goals.

FAQ

We’ve got answers

What is Clown?

Red noses, curly wigs, and big shoes? Well yes... but that's are not what makes a clown!

If you've seen the Comedy Festival lineup in recent years you may have noticed an influx of clown shows. This European approach to performance has made it's way to our shores as Australian performers increasingly go to France to study (for me it was Ecole Philippe Gaulier back in 2009).

Clowning starts with openness and connection to the audience. A performer learns to drop their fears and insecurities, in order to play freely on stage. From this we add character, and costumes, and can start devising performance pieces!

Through our workshops students discover that there is no need to hide! There is joy, humour, and relatability in their weird individual selves.

How does the Custom Program work?

We start with a chat about your goals and budget. After which I’ll get back to you with a plan in writing, including different options and fee structures that can be taken to stakeholders.

What is your fee?

My rate for a full teaching day is $850. There are discounts for extended engagements, and separate rates for designing Custom Programs and producing concerts.

What about GST? Lucky you! You got in early, so at this stage I don’t charge it! Once BANANADRAMA reaches the GST threshold I will need to add this charge.

Where are you based?

In Preston, in Melbourne’s inner(ish) north.
